What type of Project Manager are you???
I’d like to share one tip that will help you find your dream job as a Project Manager.
Hey Y’all!
How was your weekend? How y’all feeling about the new Drake album 👀 it’s ok you can be honest…
Today I’d like to share one tip that I think will help you find your dream job as a Project Manager.
Part of what I love about project management is how flexible it is. For example, these are all of the ways you can be a project manager:
Creative Project Manager
Diversity & Inclusion Project Manager
Entertainment Project Manager
Construction Project Manager
Retail Project Manager
E-Commerce Project Manager
Healthcare Project Manager
Wardrobe Project Manager
Cyber Security Project Manager
This list could literally go on forever, every single industry has project managers. Sometimes they may call it something different but best believe most of the things in this world are managed by Project Managers.
So what I want to talk about in this email is how I would approach project management if I were starting over again.
Instead of just being a generalist, I’d hyper-focus on an industry. Trust me, this will eventually make it easy to land a job in the future.
So if you’re thinking about getting into project management, ask yourself - what am I passionate about? If I didn’t need experience and money wasn’t a concern what would I be doing?
My answer is I’d be working in the world of entertainment, specifically podcasting.
So then you take whatever your answer is and then work towards being a project manager in that specific industry.
You can start by taking the Google Project Management certification and then take certifications in the thing you’re passionate about. So for me, I’d be combining the Google Project Management certification with me learning as much as I can about the podcast industry.
That way, when I apply for the role I’ve set myself apart. I’m basically setting myself apart from all of the generalist project managers while also trying to do work I’m passionate about.
Last year I worked on an animation film that was viewed over 30 million times in 45 days. This project took 8 months and was one of the scariest most fulfilling things I’ve ever done. While it was hard, I went to work one day and realized I was living my dream. I’m literally going to work every day and working on really cool things I’m passionate about.
Everyone should feel that way. Anyway, this email is getting a little too long. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, hit reply and let me know.
📲 Question:
BTW if I did a live FREE webinar or went live on TikTok so you could ask me questions would you pull up? I’m trying to think of the best way I can help you.
